The EU smart cities launch a hashtag to support citizens face the lockdown

#SmartCitiesHelp is the social media campaign conceived by the cluster of the 17 H2020 European Smart Cities projects to help citizens face the lockdown.  Through the use of the hashtag, European Smart Cities will share how they are reacting to COVID-19 and ideas to better live these challenging times. Thanks to the initiative all citizens will be informed about solidarity actions, online museums and concerts, hubs to connect citizens, digital contests, new city transportation strategies, apps, data collection platforms and more.

ICONS leads the communication activities of ASTRABAT - new Lithium batteries for electric vehicles

Fondazione ICONS, through the iCube Programme, leads the Communication & Dissemination activities and Market Analysis of the new EU-funded project ASTRABAT, which aim is to develop better, safe and environmental-friendly lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery solutions for the increasing demands of the electric vehicle market. This will come with an all solid-state electrolyte design suited to the new high-energy electrode materials and compatible with current mass-production processes. The project is run by a consortium of 14 partners from 8 European countries, including leading research centres and universities, as well as companies in the area of battery and energy. 

A new project on COVID-19 diagnostics gets underway

Fondazione ICONS, through the iCube Programme, leads the communication and dissemination activities of the new EU-funded project CORONADX. The project will develop new and rapid instruments for on-site diagnosis of COVID-19, ensuring fast case detection - from few minutes to less than an hour - and surveillance, and more effective response of the health care system. CORONADX started on 1 April 2020 and will run until until 31 March 2023. The project is coordinated by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and run by a consortium including eight partners at the forefront of detection technology research and worldwide from Austria, China, Denmark, Italy and Sweden.

Fondazione ICONS leads the communication and exploitation activities of the project POCITYF

The new EU-funded smart city project, POCITYF, is set to transform our historical and cultural cities into more efficient, healthy, sustainable living environments with "positive energy districts". The project kicks off on 9 October in Évora, Portugal, with 46 partners from 13 countries. Fondazione ICONS through its iCube Programme will lead the communication and exploitation activities of POCITYF, our fourth Lighthouse project.

Smart Cities International Conference

iCube Director Elisabeth Schmid was invited panelist to the major Smart Cities Conference By&ForCitizens held in Valladolid and hosted by CARTIF. Elisabeth participated in the expert panel discussion on ‘Citizen Centric models to transform urban areas’ and illustrated the approach of the iCube Programme and its predecessor to citizen engagement based on best practices and lessons learnt from our EU-funded smart city projects Remourban, Stardust, MAtchUP and URBAN GreenUP.

Two H2020 proposals selected for funding

Two H2020 proposals involving the iCube Programme as leader of communication and/or exploitation activities have been selected for funding by the European Commission. The winning projects assign to the iCube Programme a total funding of about 0.7 M€ and will operate in the areas of Sustainable Industrial Processes (SPIRE) and Future and Emerging Technologies (FET). Both projects will start in late 2018.

Keynote Event at the European Parliament

iCube Director Elisabeth Schmid chaired the keynote event at the European Parliament on "European Leadership through disruptive technologies: Future and Emerging Technologies towards 2030", organised in the framework of the EFFECT project. Parlamentarians, policy makers and experts gathered together to discuss the development perspectives of technology in Europe. A truly crowded venue, a success for our public engagement and communication strategies!

Welcome to our new office!

The iCube Programme moved today into the new offices of Fondazione iCons located in Lodi, 30 km south-east of Milan. The new 400+ sqm premises are located in an historical building in the very centre of the city and dispose of large meeting facilities, training rooms, and comfortable offices able to host the 15+ staff working for the iCube Programme.

Training at the Politecnico di Milano

A successful and crowded training session has been held today by iCube communication team - Elisabeth Schmid, Loredana Pianta, Silvia Raimondi and Charlotte Michi - to tens of researchers and communicators from the Politecnico di Milano.  Focusing on European research projects the session improved awareness on "how to" in communication and contributed to improve communication techniques and skills.

Five H2020 proposals selected for funding

Five H2020 proposals involving the iCube Programme as leader of communication and/or exploitation activities have been selected for funding by the European Commission. The winning projects assign to the iCube Programme a total funding of about 2.7 M€ and will operate in the areas of Smart Cities, Energy, Mobility and NBS (Nature-Based Solutions). All projects are expected to start by the end of 2017.

The available positions are interns and junior project managers to be trained in management of international projects.
